  • Food Tolerance and Intolerance Testing

Food Intolerance testing has become popular over recent years. And with so many people suffering from chronic diseases it’s no wonder. Thankfully General Practice medicine has become more knowledgeable about food intolerances and sensitivities in recent years, unlike 25 years ago when it was not even recognised or appreciated as a viable health issue.

However, it was 25 years ago when Anna identified her food intolerances with kinesiology.  She knows all too well that identifying them and eliminating culprit foods is crucial if we expect to have a marked impact on our health and wellbeing. But it is not just identifying and eliminating the culprit foods that will lead to our recovery.  We must also identify and heal the compromised systems that triggered our food intolerance in the first instance.

Certainly, one man’s meat is frequently another man’s poison.  Meaning, what suits one person will almost certainly not be suitable for another.  Biochemical individuality is a beautiful thing, and a fact. Each person has substantially different nutritional needs, it is therefore imperative that this is taken into account when designing a food programme for healing as well as long term health.

Biotyping:

Anna is a trained Biotype practitioner. She is able to recognise the style of eating most suited to your body frame, and height. This is called your individual Biotype.

Anna draws upon this skill-set in conjunction with the results from your kinesiology Food Intolerance testing when re-designing your food diary.

Once your food intolerances are then resolved through nutritional therapy, you will receive a hand-out of your Biotype, so that you can continue with your Biotype’s natural way of eating.  This will help to prevent food intolerances from developing again, in the future.

And for those who would like to take an even deeper dive into individualised biochemically related food requirements, which is especially recommended when long-term illness and complex health conditions are presenting, comprehensive Nutrigenomic screening is also optional.

KINESIOLOGY FOR FOOD SENSITIVITY TESTING

This is Anna’s preferred route in the detection of offending culprit foods. However, not all muscle testing for Food Intolerance screening is the same.

The apparent simplicity of using the basic muscle testing procedures of Kinesiology has led many practitioners, especially ‘Applied’ Kinesiologists to use ‘one leaver muscle testing’ for ‘Allergy Testing’.

One lever muscle testing usually relies heavily on one lever only, the Deltoid – the muscle which links to the lung and which also has no connection to the stomach or G.I tract what so ever.  When visiting an Allergy Clinic or testing foods and substances with one lever testing, it is not unusual for people to leave having been told they are allergic to practically everything they currently eat. This can be very distressing.  Furthermore, it is not possible to detect whether a client has an actual ‘allergy’ to ‘a food’ or ‘a product’ simply from muscle testing alone.

Therefore, Anna likes to make it really clear that her sessions are not ‘Allergy Testing’ per se.  But rather, she seeks to identify imbalances within the whole body system as it relates to food.  It could be better viewed as a Food & Product Interfacing session.

Systematic Kinesiology levels 1-4

Anna trained in Systematic Kinesiology levels 1-4, which permits a whole-body approach and style of testing when testing her client’s for food tolerance and sensitivities.

Systematic kinesiology uses all four leavers of the body (2 x arms / 2 x legs) and even a fifth lever – the head, rather than one leaver.  Moving the leavers in various directions isolates a specific muscle prior to testing the isolated muscle for integral strength.  Each isolated muscle links into a specific organ or biological system correlating to that leaver.

Systematic kinesiology is accepted science, and can therefore be used as a viable assessment tool to understand the health of the body.

When a client chooses to engage in Nutritional Therapy with Anna, they will start with a Nutritional Consultation rather than starting with a Food Tolerance testing session. During which Anna relies on Systematic Kinesiology to also provide accurate supplement recommendations, prior to using the same method for the Food Tolerance testing. This is helpful as the first session helps to identify the client’s key imbalances within each biological system.

When a client is seeking health, rather than just information on which foods they can / cannot tolerate Anna will always recommend the Nutritional Consultation Package, which includes Food Intolerance testing as the second session.

All substances can be tested; food, liquids, toxicity triggers such as cat fur, mould, heavy metals, homoeopathic nosodes of every variety

Nutrition is a complex subject.

‘THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HEALTHY DIET, ONLY AN APPROPRIATE ONE’

Anna likes to test the client for up to 50 foods.  And even more, if they can prepare more samples.  The more samples that are tested the better, providing clarity on individual tolerance to all food groups.  She then looks at combinations of food groups and GI trends.

All foods tested are categorised into LOW or HIGH tolerance and then INTOLERANT and HIDDEN ( which means the substance is creating some level of low-grade chronic inflammation).  These categories spell opportunity rather than just ‘ALLERGENIC’ which the food may or may not be.

There is a myriad of reasons why a person may have a LOW tolerance for food. e.g. poor bile flow, low pancreatic enzymes, fatty liver syndrome, clogged up hepatic pathways, gut inflammation.  There may be historic abuse of grains, a parasitic infestation, a re-activated virus or two, retroviruses, cytomegalovirus or fungal infestation.  There may be methyl mercury in the gut.  The list really does go on. Anna cannot stress enough the importance of healing from the causation behind you Food Intolerances, if we expect to live a healthy, happy life, blessed with enough energy to reach our potential.

BE THE DETECTIVE

Anna’s role is to be a detective.  She enjoys looking for clues and joining the dots.  And your Food Intolerance testing session can be powerfully suggestive.  The emerging clues represent a map to your full health. Since each intolerance represents and reflects exactly how your biological systems are functioning when interfacing with the food tested.

When called for, Anna will test the food multiple times against different organs to further elucidate you interfacing challenges.

For instance, we can have low tolerance to fatty foods, or low tolerance to grains, or low tolerance to foods from the deadly nightshade family, or perhaps sugary foods.  Our tolerance to each food group provides powerful clues as to what lies beneath.

Therefore, what is a truly healthy diet?

Carrots are not healthy when you cannot convert beta-carotene from carrots to vitamin A, increasing beta-carotene in your system to a toxic level.  Nuts are not healthy when you cannot make use of their fats, due to gall-bladder congestion? And foods rich in iron are not healthy when you carry the haemochromatosis gene.

It would be presumptuous to assume that what you consider to be a ‘healthy diet’ is actually the correct diet for you. Furthermore, just because your children came from you, and are from the same family, your children may not share your unique biology.

Labs

Completing a Food Intolerance Lab test can be useful when identifying true allergies and is comparatively inexpensive when used for Food Intolerance testing. However, there are significant drawbacks to using this method of testing for detecting food intolerances.  Intolerances develop as a result of ‘systems in the body’ no longer functioning at their optimal.  Identifying ‘only the food intolerance’ is like believing the food intolerance is the beginning and end of your issue with that food.  Which it’s not.

Further examples of underlying causations, leading to Food Intolerance

Food intolerances develop from Leaky Gut Syndrome.  When larger proteins and longer chains of protein are permitted to pass through the normally tight junctures of microvilli within with the lining of the small intestine.  Gall stones are another example. Pancreatic insufficiency is yet another example. Low HCL in the stomach is another example.

Ultimately there are 101 potential triggers behind each of these imbalances.

To simply identify the food intolerance and remove the food, it is usually not enough to resolve the underlying route cause of the food intolerance.  Nutritional Therapy with targetted nutrient intervention is the only way to resolve underlying health imbalances in a matter of months, rather than years.

How bad can a wheat intolerance really be?

For instance, every one person that gets gut symptoms when they eat wheat, there are eight people that don’t.

Instead, they get brain symptoms, or joint symptoms, or skin symptoms, or ovary symptoms, or testicular symptoms.

Because they don’t get gut symptoms, they don’t link their symptoms to the wheat and continue to eat pizza, or pitta, or pasta or couscous and believe that they feel just fine.  Maybe they’re a little tired afterwards or a little bloated, but nothing too bad! But over the years, their R.A develops, or skin issues do not go away, and they may develop endometriosis.

Symptoms of food intolerance don’t have to show up on the same day as eating the food either. You may get a rash, or a migraine or ringing in your ears or your vision may be a little off, or your joints might be inflamed a day or two after you have eaten the food. The reality check is that EVERY person has some foods. But they are eating the foods that aren’t good for them and just don’t know it!

Wheat is just the most addictive and therefore the most common of these food intolerances.  Wheat addiction and the damages resulting from wheat intolerance is no longer a working hypothesis but a well-researched fact, with many thousands of corroborating studies. There are 24,000 studies completed on gluten intolerance alone.  Many of them out of the Mayo Clinic on reversing cardiomyopathy once the wheat intolerance was identified and the offending substance removed.  Meaning that cardiomyopathy can be reversed on a gluten-free diet alone.  Some of them were celiac, but many of them were not.

Three types of food

Not all foods nourish or affect our bodies equally. Some feed us better than others.  And some do us harm, but this doesn’t have to be a Food Intolerance.  In Systematic Kinesiology, we recognise this response as a Food Sensitivity.

Let’s define the three groups.

Biogenic Foods

Biogenic foods give us energy.  They benefit the body by providing the nutrients, vitamins and minerals in balance which the body utilises to grow healthy new tissue, and sustain our energy levels in a balanced way.  Our diet should largely consist of these beneficial foods. Biogenic foods strengthen weak muscles.

Biostatic Foods

These foods when consumed neither benefits the body nor do they harm it.  They merely take up space in our digestive tract.  What little energy they yield, the body has to use up in the digestive and eliminative processes.  Biostatic foods neither strengthen weak muscles nor do they weaken strong ones.

Biocidic Foods

Biocidic foods actually deplete the body of energy and are the potential cause of many imbalances which can eventually lead to the onset of disease.  It is important to know which foods are harmful to us.  Occasional use of this group of foods is OK, as our body can adapt to the stress caused.  It is the daily consumption of Biocidic-lifeless food that is toxic to the system, and eventually weakens the body and lowers immunity.  Biocidic foods weaken strong muscles.

Food Sensitivity Testing

Some people believe that they ‘know’ intuitively what is good for them.  This may be true in some cases, and certainly, once we are free from our food addictions.  But in most cases, Kinesiology food testing over many years show results that definitely indicates to the contrary.
