Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Benign Fasciculation Syndrome has all the characteristics and whole marks of PTSD. Meaning that the sufferer has reached their threshold when it comes to stress tolerance.
The small stuff once experienced as water off a duck’s back suddenly becomes the difference between low level and high-level symptoms in the BFS, PTSD and CFS sufferer.
This acute sense of reaching one’s threshold for those with PTSD, CFS and BFS implies that individuals with these conditions are so close to the tipping-point that when it comes to coping with stress their nervous, endocrine, HPA (pituitary, hypothalamic, adrenal axis) systems are literally pushed with a single finger over the edge. It becomes THE difference between feeling fine, and capable coping (one minute) and a cascade into a literal nightmare and barrage of twitching, fatigue, shooting pains in the limbs the next. The reasoning being that since biological systems function best at the brink of chaos, it’s when the communication between these systems affecting our ability to adapt sufficiently breaks down that the torrent of symptoms arises.
It’s for this reason that ‘the small stuff’ then becomes the big stuff!
It’s also for this reason, that when one realises they have a stress-related condition, external systems for coping with stress are not only important but IMPERATIVE.
The systems I have chosen to incorporate into my daily practices are as follows;
Daily morning yoga, EFT (throughout the day, as and when issues show up), swimming and jogging 2-3 times a week, reading – me time, a gratitude journal, meditation and visualisation 3-5 times a week (wish it were more!), FIR saunas, with more around equinoxes.
Further too, I support my body with correct nutrition and extremely good quality supplementation. I have worked with glandular therapy both in practice with clients and applying it within my own health regime for years. In the early stages of BFS condition to rebuild tissues I used Lung, Liver, Thyroid, Adrenal, Pituitary, Hypothalamus glandulars all with huge success.
Glandular therapy is very different from working with nutrients alone since ether raw material is present to the body literally replacing like for like. In this was rebuilding tissue is much faster. I also nutrients relative to these systems so that I can bank my glandular credits optimising the investment further.

The first time I noticed my body twitching out of the ordinary was directly after experiencing a shock to my CNS system. The first assault was in the form of an emotional stressor, my son had just experienced an accident. The second assault came only a couple of months later, which was a double dose of dental anaesthetic. the symptoms came on almost immediately. First I had shooting pains down my left arm, which then went numb. My heart then started to cramp. Within 24 hours, not only these symptoms but twitching like I could have never imagine ensued.
My eyelids, face, throat, tongue, torso, limbs, fingers, toes, all twitching thousands of times per second.
Pains began to shoot up my arms, and my heart would cramp every few minutes. As I lay in bed focusing on my breath, which I considered might be my only hope of staying alive… I decided that I could get through this I would do whatever it takes maintain my health.
Benign Fasciculation Syndrome is virtually unheard of. Diagnosis is complicated by the lack of understanding of what might be the causative factors responsible for this condition, within mainstream medicine. It’s believed to be a variety of Fibromyalgia but often mistaken for ALS or MS.
