LABWORK

TAKING A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO BESPOKE NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

Nutritional Therapy is a fully integrated healing approach that considers each person and symptom presentation individually. It is not a one size fits all approach. Since diet, lifestyle, emotions, psychological and physical stresses all contribute to your unique health story, Nutritional Therapy recognises bio-individuality.

Each person’s biology is as unique as their fingerprint, each person’s biology is as unique as their Genomic Profile.  Nutrigenomics at the core of Nutritional Therapy.  And Omics is at the heart of Nutrigenomics.  Omics is the study of the interactions and connections within the body – the realisation that nothing in biology acts alone or in isolation.  Everything functions in partnership, sometimes synergistically. sometimes in opposition, yet always in alliance. The web of inter-connections refers to the realm of System Biology – finally recognising that nothing is singular, segregated or deterministic.  Only the individual is singular.

Finally, it’s our appreciation that a client’s singular and unique set of interactions between historical, environmental, and biological factors, are not only connected but they matter.

During your session Anna will consider & assess the following areas of health:

  • Environmental Factors: Mould, toxic metals, chemicals in our water, air, food and indoor environments, EMFs and artificial lighting

  • Pathogens: Lyme, viruses, parasites, bacterial and fungal imbalances

  • Trauma: Physical, psychological, emotional

  • Structural issues: Injuries, surgeries, TBI, accidents, connective tissue-related, hypermobility

  • Medical & Dental: vaccine injury, surgeries, anaesthesia, medical malpractice, dental infections / dental toxicity

  • Genetics & Familial Associations: Quantifying gene expression & familial associations

  • Dietary: Food quality, food intolerances, food compatibility

TRUTH BOMB!: Over the last 20 years I have witnessed many ideal ‘ways of eating’ all professing to be the ultimate road to health.  For several decades the villain has been fat and cholesterol, but over the last few years, carbohydrates and sugar have taken the blame.
The reality is no one-size-fits-all solution to nutrition because everyone’s energy requirements and metabolic status differ.  One man’s poison can literally be another’s medicine.  I have witnessed this time and again.

Anna provides clinical feedback relating to your case, as she sees it presented, helping you to join the dots and leave the session feeling empowered and informed.

Your initial session sets you up with first stage corrective supplementation, relating to your case within the context of Anna’s clinical experience and understanding.

Your second consultation; is when we design your 5-day food diary, according to your food tolerances vs food intolerances. You will be tested for up to 50 of your choice foods for ‘tolerance’ during this session.

Your second session sets you up confidently knowing which foods will support health and healing, and the food which has been triggering your symptom presentation and perpetuating disease.

The benefits of consultation:

* The benefit of clinical feedback is to present a clear interpretation of YOUR health story and a MAP for YOUR route to resolution.  Putting you at the helm of your health story engages healing via the meaning-response.

* The benefit of using corrective supplementation is to expedite healing.  When key nutrients are missing from the body, and diet, up to 3000 enzymatic pathways will be compromised – just as a result of that ONE key nutrient or mineral. Think about that!

* The benefit of removing key food challenges and immunoglobin triggers from your diet reduces total body burden, stress and inflammation.  Whilst supporting organs and systems to heal.

3 Nutritional Therapy consultations are required to set you up

1st NUTRITIONAL CONSULTATION

The initial consultation typically takes place in person, and up to 2-hours. When complex health symptoms are presenting such as C.F.S / M.E., cancer, pain syndromes etc., then an accountability or supporting partner is recommended to join you for each of the first 3-Set-up consultations.  Prior to your Initial consultation, you will be asked to complete a Nutrition and Lifestyle questionnaire which Anna goes through before your Initial consultation.

THE IMPORTANCE OF DEFINING YOUR HEALTH GOALS & SETTING REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS IN LINE WITH AVAILABLE RESOURCES & COMMITMENT

Pitching realistic health goals is synonymous with good results and long-term health successes. Therefore, Anna helps you to define and then align your health goals with your lifestyle in line of the changes that you are capable of making, daily within your life. Anna then takes you through brain gym exercises to help you align with these ‘new health goals’.

Anna considers each case wholistically, with all supplement recommendations made through a wholistic Naturopathic and Functional lens after considering the complexities of your case. To support her recommendations, Anna is trained in levels 1-4 in Systematic kinesiology. During your Initial consultation, Anna works with this sophisticated biofeedback process and tool to enable direct communicate with your body, from within the first session. Through this process, Anna is able to make robust supplement recommendations and map-out a route for resolution, to support the uniqueness of your personal health story and symptom presentations.  There are many additional benefits to this process.  The first being that Systematic kinesiology biofeedback enables Anna to gather descriptive details around the functionality of each organ and system. And secondly, this biofeedback skill provides provides information on how organs and systems are compromised and/or supporting each other (at a cost).

Anna then applies the principles of Naturopathic Nutrition and Functional Nutrition seeking to acknowledge and palliate your ‘symptoms’ – which are the ‘branches’ of you health condition. Whilst more importantly, she identifies the underlying triggers – which are the ‘roots’ to health tree.  All roots need to be tended to when plotting a viable ‘route to resolution’ within any wellness strategy.  Conversely, treating the symptoms alone is often expensive in time and money since it is ineffective in the long run.  Functional Labwork is recommended via private laboratory partners when there is a true benefit to be gained.

2nd NUTRITIONAL CONSULTATION

DURING YOUR SECOND SESSION WE RE-DESIGN YOUR FOOD DIARY ACCORDING TO A 45-MINUTE FOOD & SUBSTANCE TESTING SESSION, DURING WHICH UP TO 50 FOODS CAN BE TESTED

You Food & Substance Testing Session, for of up to 50 foods, drinks, herbs etc. will provide clarity on your tolerance to individual substances as well as to ‘food groups’, ‘combinations of foods, drinks, herbs’ and gastrointestinal health and trends.

Once tested the foods will be categorised into four categories; Tolerant, Intolerant, Quantity, Hidden.  Tolerant and Intolerant (acute inflammatory) are self-explanatory.  The ‘Quantity’ category denotes that the substance can be taken in a LOW dose and on rotation.  The ‘Hidden’ response denotes that the substance triggers a LOW-GRADE inflammatory response, sometimes up to 72 hours after consumption and can be traced back to an auto-immune relationship with said food.  Foods which trigger a ‘Quantity’ driven and ‘Hidden’ low-grade inflammatory response are typically missed, and therefore can continue to wreak havoc for years before detection.

There are a myriad of potential reasons as to why someone may be intolerant, have low tolerance to a food or have an auto-immune relationship with their food.  Examples may include; poor biliary flow, low pancreatic enzymes, fatty liver, clogged hepatic pathways, gut dysbiosis, leaky-gut, stealth bugs in the gut, pancreas or liver, parasites in gut and/or liver, systemic candida, methyl mercury in the gut.  The list really does go on.

BE A DETECTIVE:  Searching for clues and joining the dots, within your Food & Substance Tolerance testing session can be powerfully suggestive.  These clues represent your health since they represent exactly how key digestive or metabolic systems are functioning when interfacing with the foods tested. For instance, low tolerance to fatty foods, or low tolerance to grains, salads, berries, spinach and chard, or low tolerance to foods from the deadly nightshade family or sugary foods … can all provide powerful clues as to what triggers lie beneath your health condition. Therefore, it would be presumptuous to assume that what you consider to be a ‘healthy diet’ is the correct diet for you.

‘THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HEALTHY DIET, ONLY AN APPROPRIATE ONE’

3rd NUTRITIONAL CONSULTATION

DURING YOUR THIRD SET-UP CONSULTATION, YOUR SUPPLEMENT SCHEDULE IS ADJUSTED TO REFELCT THE PROGRESS THAT YOU HAVE MADE WITHIN THE INITIAL 6-WEEKS. A NEW SUPPELMENT SCHDEULE IS THEN DESIGNED, WHICH TAKES YOU FURTHER ALONG YOUR HEALING JOURNEY.

The 1st phase of your supplementation is designed to address current and acute symptoms. This includes to decrease inflammation, to decrease symptoms of pain if there is any, to open up the drainage systems and to reduce the total stress load on the body.  All of this lays the foundations for healing, detoxification and so on.  After the first 6 weeks on the recommended diet and supplements, you will be ready to move on to the 2nd phase of your healing journey. By this time, you will have consistently committed to a new way of eating and a therapeutic level of care in the form of a targeted supplementation programme. It makes perfect sense that your body now requires adjustment to your current supplement programme, or in some cases, an entirely new supplement programme. We address these changes promptly after 6-weeks from the date of you Initial consultation.

Your targeted supplement recommendations are designed to support you; to bridge metabolic pathways, rejuvenate organs, detoxify drainage systems, heal damaged tissues and systems – which may include to heal the gut, to cleanse the liver, to increase your bile flow and to strengthen your adrenal glands.

Dose & Timing:  Precise and individualised supplement schedules are the key to every success story.  Consider this; biological cycles cannot be separated out from our health. The Chinese wheel of health recognises that every 2-hours a different organ / system comes into focus via the cycles of our planet and astrological configurations.  All of life involves these cycles, which, if we are to remain healthy need to be respected.  This includes understanding that nutrients should be delivered at the correct time of day within those cycles, and at a therapeutic dose that makes a therapeutic difference. When we miss the optimal time of day for nutrient absorption or take less than the recommended dose, then we can’t expect to achieve optimal results. A therapeutic dose taken at the right time of the day is paramount for the efficacy of any supplement.

YOUR WELCOME PACK + DETOX MANUAL

The Nutritional Therapy consultation pack provides information on how the three initial consultations are structured, GDPR, policies, payment options, supplementation Q&A.  Please print this off and read through and sign the policy & Disclaimer pages prior to your initial consultation session.

The Detoxification Manual has been designed to accompany your health programme, when appropriated by your symptom profile.  Symptoms can be greatly relieved by detoxification techniques.  This manual is a guide to the various detoxification techniques embraced by traditional Naturopathy otherwise known as Old Fashioned Nursing Techniques. The aim of using naturopathic techniques is to bring energy and healing to specific areas of the body, reducing discomfort during detoxification.

KINESIOLOGY

Anna trained in Systematic Kinesiology levels 1-4, permitting her to use this whole-body approach and style of testing within her nutritional practice.  Anna engages her clients with Systematic kinesiology when screening their health for recommended supplementation as well as food tolerance and sensitivities.   Systematic kinesiology uses all four leavers of the body (2 x arms / 2 x legs) and even the head.  When moving the leavers in various directions this isolates a specific muscle, locking the leaver into an organ or biological system, correlating to that leaver. The isolated muscle is then tested for integral strength.

Systematic kinesiology is accepted science, and can therefore be used as a viable assessment tool to understand the health of the body.  It can also be used to provide accurate supplement recommendations and food tolerance testing.

Using Kinesiology to provide supplement guidelines: We first find the weak organ, by finding the weak correlating muscle.  We then lay the supplement on the body and re-test the correlating muscle. Typically a weak muscle will strengthen when the correct supplement is placed upon the body when a muscle is weak / correlating to a weakened organ.  Equally a strong muscle will weaken when the incorrect supplement is placed upon the body.  This information provides a gateway and dialogue between the practitioner and the ‘body’ of the client, which has advantages over clinical testing and questionnaires alone.

Using Kinesiology for food and substance testing: All substances can to be tested; food, liquids, toxicity triggers such as cat fur, mould, heavy metals, homoeopathic nosodes of every variety.

DIETARY ADVICE

Nutrition is fundamental to health. Yet foods are not simply ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’ but rather they contain nutrients which alone or as part of a whole dietary pattern alter a host of physiological functions including metabolism, gut activity and gene expression. In many cases, progress with health problems will be impossible or seriously limited unless appropriate dietary changes are undertaken.

I provide individual dietary advice based on each client’s symptom’s, medical history, food tolerance testing with kinesiology, lab results and even genetic testing to ensure that the rationale behind my recommendations are fully understood. Nutritional supplements fit into this approach perfectly.

Generally speaking, the foundation of everyone’s diet should be fresh, unprocessed foods. Rediscovering traditional meals based around meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and full-fat dairy products.

SUPPLEMENTATION

I have worked with some extra-ordinary complex health cases, and it is now my firm belief that it would be idealistic to consider that we can obtain all the nutrients required for robust health without supplementation.

For one moment consider toxicity in the environment

Living in a toxic environment, where 250 chemicals adverse to human health can be measured with the umbilical chord even prior to birth. The reality is that this is a world of toxic extremes, dealing with chemicals from inside the home and our food supplies 24/7. Our bodies are not designed for this measure, and can only cope for so long before it breaks down at the weakest genetic link.

Q: Are all supplements the same?
A: NO! I only ever use supplements that I know are worthy of your investment. Your body will know that you are getting the real-deal, usually within a matter of weeks and sometimes only days. Remember you get what you pay for with supplements. I believe that you owe it to yourself to have the best.

I, therefore, recommend supplements in every case to support optimal health. Guided by kinesiology throughout the supplement selection process.

Q: Are all brands the same?
A: NO! In some cases, only one or two brands of the SAME nutrient or glandular will test up as positive for the client. With cheaper brands filled with toxic binders and fillers (or simply poor quality) switching healthy muscles of the body off.

I value the good working relationship I have with my suppliers and can draw on their expertise when needed.

PARTNER LABS

PRIVATE LABS

(Diagnostic tests from some of the top labs in the world)

When further information is required in order to understand your health condition Anna will recommend Private Lab testing.  As a Registered Nutritional Therapist, Anna has access to a wide range of diagnostic tests through partner Labs. Depending on the nature of the investigation required, you may need saliva or urine, or stool samples to be collected.  Which can all be completed in the privacy of your home.  Blood samples need to be arranged and collected by a local phlebotomist.

Tests frequently ordered include:

Organic acid testing – a very useful diagnostic aid in identifying metabolic and microbial markers, vitamin status and oxalate levels.
Porphyrin and Toxic Element Testing for Heavy Metals & Environmental Toxicants – assessing the body’s burden and enabling strategies for detoxification.
Coeliac markers – a full panel of gluten reactivity markers (unlike the limited test offered by the NHS).
Genomic panels – for your ultimate in personalised medicine.

100’s of other private lab tests include testing for nutrient status, thyroid function, parasite and viral loading past and active, neurological issues, allergy and autoimmune testing, homocysteine testing, and so much more.

Anna is also a big fan of Genomic Wellness testing.

GENOMIC WELLNESS TESTING PANELS

Encoded from birth is our DNA which is subsequently influenced by our environments, our nutritional choices and lifestyle.  As well as our relationships, our sense of community and emotional responses.  The influence of these external factors upon our DNA is known as Epigenetics.

> DNA Genetic Panels provide clues as to why we may be predisposed to developing certain health conditions.

> Functional Medicine Panels then help us to understand the present outcome of our genetic predispositions.  Test results can also help us to track progress.  I am a big fan of both!

Please note, laboratory tests often require additional consultation time to go through the results and rationales for nutritional support especially where complex interpretation is required.

Integrating Genetic Panels within nutritional consultation is the perfect compliment and therefore strongly recommended.

The Role of Nutrition in Gene Expression

NUTRITIONAL SCIENCE & GENE EXPRESSION

  • Nutrigenomics is a branch of nutritional science that looks at the interaction of nutrition and genes with regard to the treatment and prevention of disease. By using signalling pathways, vitamins and nutrients influence the rate at which DNA to RNA transcription occurs.

  • DNA methylation is the process of adding a methyl group to a DNA molecule.  Dietary methyl components include B12, folate, SamE, polyphenols and flavonoids in green tea, and phytoestrogens all affect the interaction of DNA and protein-producing molecules, and therefore they can activate or silence genes. This is extremely exciting news! Why?

  • Well, we now know that 5-8% of our DNA or genetic material is actually retroviral DNA.  What this means is, when retrovirus segments are triggered in the body, the retrovirus then uses an enzyme called reverse transcriptase to make RNA into DNA, becoming part of our own genetic material inside the cell. Now we have pro-viral DNA that turns on our cell.  Researches have found that when retroviral DNA pieces are activated, it leads to autoimmune illness, neurological disease, and cancer. Understanding these triggers help us to understand that by silencing the re-activated retrovirus with nutrient therapy we silence the gene expression – triggering the disease.

  • So we know that nutrient therapy silences the re-activated retroviral DNA.  What triggers it? Stressors trigger the re-activation of these retrovirus segments embedded in our DNA.

  • If you are undermethylated, by not having enough methylated folate or methyl B12 of SAM-e, then your body is not able to silence these segments of DNA, triggering retroviral exposures.

TARGETTED NUTRITIONAL THERAPY TO SUPPORT GENE REGULATION

So we know that the nutrients we consume impact gene expression and the way our genes are regulated. Gene expression is altered by the environment of the cell (Bechamp theory). The environment of the cell being dictated by our nutritional choices, our lifestyle choices and toxicity exposure.

Targetted nutritional therapy Nutrition can modify the cellular processes inside our body for better or worse. Nutrients and vitamins lessen the severity of disease via targeted treatment plans.  Maintaining health and preventing chronic disease is not just about taking a multivitamin and eating healthy organic food, which is of course vitally important.  But it’s also about keeping infections under control and our immune system strong.  This means to not allow retroviruses to be expressed.

Health is about being resilient to all of the pathogens that we encounter in our environment, and remain as free from toxicity deposition in our cells as feasibly possible.  Understanding our epigenetic and nutrigenomic profile provides a personalised health manual for life. Anna understands the importance of educating her clients in their genetic profile predispositions.

Completing a Genomic Wellness Test and understanding your epigenetic predispositions through continued education, is worth its weight in gold!
